PIDM PROJECT MONEYSMART
One of the main functions of PIDM is to conduct ongoing initiatives to enhance public awareness of the deposit insurance system and the role of PIDM as the national deposit insurer. PIDM Project MoneySmart is an education programme carried out to raise awareness of deposit insurance among students as well as their teachers, parents and peers.
The objective of PIDM Project MoneySmart is to raise financial awareness and literacy among schools and higher learning institutions in Malaysia. PIDM Project MoneySmart aims to engage students to learn about deposit insurance protection in a fun and interesting way and, at the same time, provide them with opportunities to win attractive prizes as an incentive for learning.
Students and teachers would have the opportunity to participate in PIDM Project MoneySmart through the MoneySmart Online Game, the MoneySmart Board Game and the MoneySmart comic book.
PIDM Project MoneySmart introduces 5 life stages that will require different knowledge and skills in money management and planning:
Stage 1 - Pursuing education
Stage 2 - Joining the work force and pursuing a career Stage 3 - Getting married
Stage 4 - Raising children
Stage 5 - Preparing for retirement

MoneySmart Online Game
The MoneySmart Online Game takes participants through different life stages and situations in which they would need to apply their financial knowledge and skills. It highlights the importance of knowledge of sound investments as well as avoiding financial scams and unwise decisions that can lead to financial losses.

They will gain deeper awareness and understanding of the factors that influence spending habits, the banking and financial system, the role and functions of PIDM as the national deposit insurer, deposit insurance protection, basic personal financial fundamentals, the importance of saving from a young age, and setting financial goals and actions related to personal financial management.
Students from secondary schools and higher learning institutions are encouraged to participate in and play the MoneySmart Online Game to learn and win prizes. Besides students, teachers, lecturers, parents, family members, relatives and friends are also encouraged to participate in and play the MoneySmart Online Game together.
PIDM is offering prizes for individual participation, group participation and schools with the highest number of participants.

Similar to the Online Game, the Board Game takes you through the 5 life stages – pursuing education, joining the work force and pursuing a career, getting married, raising children and preparing for retirement – that will require different knowledge and skills in money management and planning.

Join our four friends – Azman, Vijay, Su Lin and Dayang – on their journey as they learn about the importance of sound financial decisions, especially in cultivating the habit of saving and how deposit insurance works in protecting their savings in the bank.

Road shows and talks
As part of PIDM Project MoneySmart, PIDM is reaching out to secondary schools and higher learning institutions nationwide from April to November 2010 by conducting road shows and talks.
