Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2009: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) will be in Kuching next week as part of its annual Corporate Outreach to educate the public about depositor protection and enhance its relationship with stakeholders among the local community.
The 2009 annual Corporate Outreach is the third such event to be organised by PIDM to further raise public awareness about deposit insurance and the role of PIDM as the national deposit insurer. PIDM’s previous Corporate Outreach events were held in Pulau Pinang in 2007 and Kota Kinabalu last year.
“We always look for opportunities to reach out to the local community through our ongoing public awareness initiatives. Our Corporate Outreach programme provides an opportunity for us to meet the local community and create greater awareness of our role in providing depositor protection and promoting financial system stability. We believe that informed depositors contribute to greater public confidence in the financial system,” said Jean Pierre Sabourin, Chief Executive Officer of PIDM.
PIDM’s Board of Directors and senior management will be holding a media briefing, a series of meetings as well as a free public talk on effective financial consumer protection.
The public talk is a highlight of PIDM’s annual Corporate Outreach programme. Besides PIDM, the public talk will feature speakers from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) and the Financial Mediation Bureau (FMB). The public will benefit from a range of topics presented including deposit insurance protection, banking, credit management and avenues for financial disputes.
“We welcome the public to join us for the free public talk. This is one of the rare opportunities where the main financial consumer protection agencies come together to offer public information on financial matters. We look forward to meet and listen to the community that we serve,” continued Sabourin.
The public talk will be held at the Ballroom, Lobby Floor, Hilton Hotel Kuching, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kuching on Thursday, 2 July 2009 from 8.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. Those who are interested to attend the talk should register early to reserve their seats.
