PIDM doubles number of scholarship awards
10/10/2011

Kuala Lumpur, 10 October 2011: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) has awarded scholarships to 10 undergraduates under its 2011 Scholarship Award Programme, which is double the number of recipients when the scholarship scheme was introduced last year.

The scholarships are for the 10 outstanding students to pursue degree programmes in law, actuarial science and economics, which are disciplines relevant to PIDM’s business.

The scholars were selected based on their academic and extracurricular achievements, communication skills, maturity and potential leadership quality, as well as access to financial support.

The scholarship comes without bonding and provides for funding for tuition fees and living expenses as well as books and equipment. Upon successful completion of their studies, the scholars will have the opportunity to undergo a six-month internship with PIDM.

PIDM Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Abdul Samad Haji Alias said the number of recipients was increased because the experience last year showed that there were other cases worthy of the awards.

“The scholarship is our way of contributing to the creation of a talent pool for the employment market, particularly in the financial services sector,” he said at the scholarship award ceremony recently.

PIDM Chief Executive Officer J.P. Sabourin said: “The scholarship award is in line with our CSR policy, which has community involvement as a core theme. Hard work and dedication is important, but some people need a helping hand along the way.”

The 10 recipients are Encik Chai Duwei, Cik Norliana Misuraken, Encik Muhammad Hussein Abdullah, Encik Ooi Xin Kenn, Encik Thayalan Moorthy, Encik Mohammed Abduh Md Hafidz, Cik Tan Yung Wei, Encik Teh Eng Khien, Encik Chai Chun Khiong and Cik Nur Hidayah Mohamed Azmi.

They hail from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
