Mr. Md Khairuddin Hj Arshad

Md. Khairuddin bin Haji Arshad is the Chief Operating Officer of MDIC and is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Corporation, including Insurance, Risk Assessment and Monitoring, Intervention and Failure Resolution, Finance and Administration, Legal, Communications and Public Affairs, and Strategic Planning. Prior to this appointment, he was the General Manager of Insurance Risk Assessment and Monitoring Division, responsible for the analysis and monitoring of the risk level of banks as well as the intervention and failure resolutions of troubled banks.

Khairuddin has also served Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia) for over 15 years in the Bank Regulation Department and the Islamic Banking and Takaful Department. He has extensive experience in Islamic banking and finance, and is currently the Chairman of Islamic Deposit Insurance Group (IDIG) of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) and a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB) working group on Islamic financial transactions. He has also provided technical assistance to various countries in developing their Islamic banking industry as well as presented papers at domestic and international seminars. He holds an accounting degree from the International Islamic University, Malaysia.

Mr. Roslan bin Abdul Razak
Director, Business Advisory, Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) 

Roslan Abdul Razak holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He brings with him more than 20 years experience in various aspects of both Islamic and conventional banking. He is currently the Director of Training and Shariah Business Advisory of Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM), a government-backed and industry owned institute. During his tenure with the Institute, he had successfully assisted and advised numerous governments and organizations, to establish and implement Islamic financial products and services.

He was with Prudential Fund Management Berhad as the Director of Shariah Investments and was responsible for the establishment and development of Shariah operations and Islamic fund management for Prudential Group. During his short stint with PFMB, the company's Shariah equity fund won the prestigious award by Falaika Group in Dubai.

In addition, he also provides advice on strategic and business planning on Islamic finance. He is actively involved in the development of new Islamic financial products and services and had conducted various researches and development programmes for this purpose. Currently, he is assisting the Ministry in the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia in developing the functions of Baitulmal in the country. He sits in several consultative committees established by the Securities Commission of Malaysia as well as a member of the Baitulmal Committee for the Islamic Religious Council of Selangor.

A certified trainer by the Human Resource Development Council under the Ministry of Human Resource, he is also a qualified trainer in Islamic finance and had presented papers at seminars and conferences related in all spectrum of Islamic finance, both locally and internationally.

Ms. Siti Mua’Wanah Lajis

Ms. Siti Muawanah Lajis is the Head of Strategic Communications and External Relations of the Islamic Banking and Takaful Dept of Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia).

Siti Muawanah holds a Masters degree in Banking & Finance from Monash University, Australia; BS (Finance) and BA (Economics) from Northern Illinois University, USA; Executive Diploma of Usuluddin, University Malaya; and Certificate of Islamic Law, International Islamic University of Malaysia. She is currently pursuing PhD in Islamic finance at INCEIF.

She started her career with BNM since 1988 in the Banking Supervision Dept. and has vast experience in Islamic finance infrastructure development, corporate governance, risk management and strategic initiative start-ups. Her involvement in Islamic finance includes the setting up of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) a global university of Islamic finance, the Association of Chartered Islamic Finance Professionals (ACIFP) and the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA). Prior to this, she pioneered the development of enterprise-wide operational risk management framework for Bank Negara Malaysia.

Deposit Insurance from Shariah Perspective and Survey on Islamic Deposit Insurance
Mr. Mohd Sobri bin Mansor
Risk Manager, Insurance, Risk Assessment & Monitoring Division, Malaysia Deposit Insurance Corporation (MDIC)

Mohd Sobri is the Risk Manager of Islamic Deposit Insurance Policy Unit in the Insurance, Risk Assessment and Monitoring Division of MDIC. He is responsible for the formulation of policies on Islamic deposit insurance and risk assessment on MDIC member institutions. He was also involved in the issuance of guidelines on determination and collection of premium from member institutions.

Sobri received his Bachelor of Accounting from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia in 2002. Prior to MDIC, he served Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia) for three years as a Senior Executive in Islamic Banking and Takaful Department, where he was in-charge of formulating prudential policies for the Islamic banking industry in Malaysia.

Dr. Mohammed Lutfi Mohammed Al-Ja’fari

Dr. Al-Ja’fari holds the position of General Director of the Corporation (JODIC) since the beginning of the year 2004. Prior to joining JODIC, Dr. Al-Ja’fari held the post of Commissioner for Finance and Administration at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) during the period 2002-2003. Dr. Al-Ja’fari held several positions at the Central Bank of Jordan during the period 1986-2002.

Dr. Al-Ja’fari serves as board member at different public shareholding companies.

He represents JODIC at the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) where he is a member of the Executive Council, Research and Guidance Committee and chairperson of the Membership and Communications Committee (MCC) and the Regional Committee for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Dr. Al-Ja’fari holds a doctorate degree in finance from Manchester Business School/England, and a master's and bachelor’s degree in economics from Jordanian universities.

Appointed as a member of the Board of Commissioners and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace Krisna Wijaya as of 10 October 2008. He was subsequently re-appointed to serve as a member of the Board Commissioners and CEO on 19 November 2009. He was, prior to his appointment as IDIC’s CEO, the Insurance and Risk Management Director since 22 September 2005.

He also previously served as the Director of Insurance with the Directorate General of Financial Institutions of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. He has a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the Universitas Indonesia (1981) and a Master of Arts from Ball State University, USA (1988).
