Kuala Lumpur, 11 September 2013: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) hopes to reach out further in creating awareness on financial consumer protection to the Chinese community when it signed a collaborative agreement with the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) in Kuala Lumpur recently.
As part of the collaboration, PIDM will jointly with Hua Zong, hold five briefing sessions on the financial consumer protection systems it administers, namely the Deposit Insurance System (DIS) and the Takaful and Insurance Benefits Protection System (TIPS), in various locations throughout the country.
At the signing ceremony, PIDM was represented by Puan Rozita Ahmad, its General Manager of Communications and Public Affairs Division and Mr Kerk Loong Sing, Chairman of Hua Zong’s Economic Studies Committee.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Hua Zong in this programme where we have the opportunity to brief the Chinese community in various states. This is part of our ongoing initiatives to further enhance public awareness of PIDM, DIS and TIPS and to promote confidence in the stability of the financial system in Malaysia,” said Puan Rozita.
“It is important for financial consumers to understand the benefits of the protection systems PIDM administers to enable them to make informed financial decisions. We regularly collaborate with our stakeholders and several organisations in conducting briefings, training activities and seminars in our efforts to inform and educate all our target groups,” she added.
“To date, PIDM has collaborative arrangements with the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association (FOMCA), Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and a number of its member institutions. We are also looking to collaborate with other groups to reach out to all communities across Malaysia,” said Puan Rozita.
The briefings with Hua Zong will be conducted in Mandarin starting on 6 September 2013 in Alor Setar, Kedah, followed by Kuantan, Pahang, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Batu Pahat, Johor and ending on 23 November 2013 in Bintulu, Sarawak.
This programme will help enlighten the Chinese community especially those from the smaller towns, to learn more about the financial consumer protection provided by PIDM.
Hua Zong, which was founded in 1991, is a non-profit organisation representing the major Chinese associations in all 13 states in Malaysia. It also conducts other financial briefings such as talks on investment opportunities, annual seminars to enlighten the Chinese community on the national Budget and other relevant programmes.
