Kuala Lumpur, 19 May 2021: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) has rolled out its Financial Resilience Campaign with Chief BerUang. PIDM has picked the Borneo sun bear, one of Malaysia’s vulnerable animals listed by IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species) to advocate financial resilience for Malaysians on social media.

The campaign kicks off with a series of animated videos featuring Chief BerUang, as a talk show host providing advice on good financial management.

Rafiz Azuan Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of PIDM, stated that good financial management behaviour, such as a savings habit and the building of emergency funds, will help Malaysians over the long run to weather adversities in life. Chief BerUang is the perfect icon to deliver messages on good financial management in an entertaining manner to social media audiences.

“Chief BerUang is the first of many programmes lined up under PIDM’s Financial Resilience Campaign 2021.  The public can look forward to webinars and virtual panel discussions on financial management, a 21-day savings challenge, as well as participating in activities with exciting prizes to be won,” Rafiz enthused.

At the same time, PIDM has adopted five sun bears (three females and two males) in support of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre in Sabah. This year-long commitment from PIDM will help BSBCC continue its conservation efforts and raise awareness about this species.
