More than 240 students sponsored under the programme since 2010

Kuala Lumpur, 25 September 2024: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) awarded scholarships to 20 students under its PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme. The scholarship programme also reached a milestone of 15 years, in supporting deserving Malaysian students who require financial assistance to pursue their tertiary education in local universities. Established in 2010, the scholarship programme has sponsored 248 students pursuing various fields of study.

“The PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme reflects our steadfast commitment to empowering underprivileged students. The selected students deserve the opportunity to pursue their education and achieve their dreams without financial hardship curtailing their ambitions. We wholeheartedly support and encourage their passion for knowledge, and we hope through this scholarship programme, they will succeed in their endeavours and bring great value to the nation and society,” said Rafiz Azuan Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of PIDM.

Rafiz underscored the importance of education as the cornerstone for young talents to secure a better future and in turn, uplift their communities and improve lives. Scholars will have the opportunity to maximise their potential to become competent, responsible, and innovative individuals capable of seizing opportunities and facing challenges that may arise in the future.

“I am truly grateful to PIDM for this opportunity. My parents are equally relieved because the scholarship has eased my financial concerns, allowing me to focus on my studies and future career. I look forward to exciting possibilities and the chance to improve my skills and connect with professionals in my field of study,” said Najihah.

Lee Jia Jun, from Pusing, Perak completed his Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia with a CGPA of 4.0 and will continue his studies in Accounting at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Jia Jun is determined to do well in his education and looks up to his father, a hawker, who taught him to stay positive and to view challenges as opportunities for learning and growth.

"I’m happy to be selected as a recipient of the PIDM scholarship. Apart from the financial assistance, the internship opportunity will expose me to valuable practical experience that can enhance my understanding of accounting and economics. I believe the scholarship programme can boost my personal and professional development,” said Jia Jun. He dreams of becoming an accountant and establishing his own firm someday.

Pavitharan Rao A/L Subramaniam, from Rawang, Selangor, is a Finance student at Universiti Utara Malaysia.
