Kuala Lumpur, 8 September 2026: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) recently awarded scholarships to 20 deserving students under its Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, continuing its commitment to support Malaysian students who require financial assistance to pursue tertiary education. Established in 2010, the programme has supported 292 students pursuing various fields of study.
“PIDM recognises education as a powerful driver of social mobility. Just as we provide a financial safety net for depositors and policy owners, tertiary education can serve as a personal safety net for deserving students and their families for greater financial security. The PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme is one way we help make a means to that possible end,” said Afiza Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of PIDM.
Afiza highlighted that the PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme continues to receive strong interest, gathering more than 4,700 applications this year.
“The strong response reflects the aspirations of young Malaysians and the support many need to pursue their dreams. Through this Programme, PIDM can help ease their financial burden, enabling them to concentrate on their studies and realise their potential. We are proud to be a part of their journey,” she added.
Among this year’s recipients is Elisa Reena Dass from Ipoh, Perak, who will be pursuing Management at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Raised by a single mother, Elisa has consistently excelled academically despite her family’s financial circumstances, achieving straight As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination and a perfect CGPA of 4.00 in the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia examination.
“My mother told me that education is key to changing our lives and creating a better future. Receiving this scholarship brings me a step closer to doing that. I also look forward to gaining practical experience through PIDM’s internship programme, which will prepare me professionally for a career in finance,” said Elisa.
Another recipient, Nur Lyana Norfadzly from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, is pursuing Human Resource Development at Universiti Putra Malaysia. As the eldest of three siblings, she hopes to set a positive example for them and build a better future for her family. Upon learning through social media that the Programme was open for applications, she applied immediately, seeing it as an opportunity to pursue her aspirations with financial security and peace of mind.
“I’m grateful and relieved. Getting this scholarship lifted all the worries off my shoulders. It’s a moment I will remember for a long time,” said Nur Lyana, who hopes to someday become an educator.
The PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme provides scholars with financial support to pursue and complete their tertiary education. This comprehensive assistance covers tuition fees, living expenses and learning aids. Beyond financial support, scholars can undertake internships at PIDM and receive guidance from PIDM mentors throughout their academic journey.
